Reading/CNJ "joint freight"
A Central Railroad of New Jersey M2s Mikado (Brooks Locomotive 1920) pulls a joint Reading/CNJ freight. By 1947, these CNJ Mikados had been reclassified M63. This train is headed east, and is on its way to Elizabethport. More than likely, this is a B&O "Royal Blue freight out of the B&O's Eastside Yard in Philadelphia. At the time of this picture, the Reading controlled CNJ was only months away from once again falling into bankruptcy, and was reallying very heavily on general freight to make up the dropping anthracite revenues.
